Union trade leader Jespus Bodas has termed the blast at Amuay Refinery "Chronicle of a death foretold." He requested state-run oil holding Petr leos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) a thorough inquest into the events.
Bodas suggested operating emergency in Pdvsa in light of this event, regarded as one of the most serious events in the oil industry.
He put the blame on Pdvsa board of directors for the events that have claimed 26 lives so far. The trade union leader noted that they had warned already about the situation due to lack of maintenance in Pvdsa.
"The red, very red leaders have told us that they will discuss it at PSUV (United Socialist Party of Venezuela). So far, all we want is to start investigations (.) We make an appeal to the President of the Republic to take on his responsibility and allow for the review," he told El Universal during a telephone conversation.
